Marky Chavez :

Overview: In 2003, shortly after the release of 'Unstable', Adema lead singer Marky Chavez left the band. A little over a year later he formed a new band called State Of Mind. After the band found out that another band already had this named they changed their name to Midnight Panic. The band has yet to get an album released in stores but Chavez has his own record label, Thru The Roof Records, which have been selling their 9 tracks, debut EP on their website since late 2005. Also on their MySpace site the band has posted a video for the track "Tonight Is Our Last Night". In a blog post in October on their MySpace site the band stated that they have written about five new songs and will hopefully be getting in the studio soon. The band hopes to eventually release a debut LP in stores.

The Good: It should be noted right off the bat that this band is not like Adema. The sound of the band is still basically rock but it is not nu metal and the bands sound is more mainstream rock with a little progressive and punk mixed in. All of the songs on this debut EP are good and the band meshes well together and has some good chemistry. There are a couple of songs that have the potential to be singles and some of the songs have some cool techno like sound effects added into them to mix the songs up a bit and give them a unique sound. There is also a good mix of fast and slow songs and all of the tracks are pretty catchy and for the most part there really isn't one bad song on this CD.

The Bad: While the band works well together and this is a good CD, the members of the band aren't as good as the fantastic guitarist, bass player and drummer from Adema. The sound of those three was so good that they carried the last Adema album despite a lackluster performance from former singer Luke Caraccioli. And when listening to the backup guys from Midnight Panic with original Adema singer Chavez, it sounds kind of like a downgrade compared to the awesome bass, drum and guitar players from Adema. All of the tracks on this album are good but none of them will blow you away as none of the songs on this EP have blockbuster potential.

Bottomline: The debut EP from Midnight Panic is a good first album from the rather new band and this CD shows that they have a lot of potential. This CD won't blow you away with any huge hits but the album is consistent and all of the songs are good from top to bottom. If you were a fan of Marky Chavez in Adema then you will be happy to know that while the band sounds a little different, his voice sounds the same as when he was in Adema and if your looking to hear a good new CD from Marky Chavez than look no further than the debut EP from Midnight Panic.
